Client: VITA Student

Principal Contractor: Kier Construction

Scope of Works: Groundworks & Hard Landscaping

Works Completed: December 2019

St Albans Place is a purpose-built student accommodation block in the centre of Leeds close to the A64. Commissioned by VITA Student and headed by principal contractors Kier Construction, the 18-storey concrete-framed structure includes 376 studios, communal dining rooms, a coffee lounge, a gym, a cinema and a management suite.

Following the successful completion of the first phase of the project, Yorkshire Pro Paving stepped in to oversee the external groundworks and hard landscaping, which included:

  • 675m underground drainage
  • 35 manhole covers
  • 350m of kerbs & edgings
  • 1,000m2 resin bound gravel
  • 950m2 paving
  • Site furniture including bins, bollards and benches

Due to the site position near the A64 and local businesses, the project had to be carefully organised with clear and consistent communication from everyone involved. Regular lean planning meetings ensured the key parties were fully aware of the project’s progression. As a result, the development was successfully completed ahead of schedule and even helped to increase local revenue.

A year later, we returned to attend the 12 month defect period – it still looks fantastic and very few defects were discovered; this was commented on by the site senior project manager for Kiers construction, and is testament to our high-quality workmanship.
